Milk Maid® Caramel Apple Pie
Prep Time: 30 Minutes Cook Time: 1hr 0 Minutes Total Time: 1hr 30 Minutes Yield: one 9" pie, serves 8
Ingredients
For the filling:
2 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 1/8”)
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 1/8”)
¼ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
3 Tbls unbleached all-purpose flour
18 Brach’s® Milk Maid® Caramels
½ tsp kosher salt
1 Tbls milk
1 9” pie crust shell
For the streusel topping:
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
¼ tsp kosher salt
½ cup unsalted butter, melted (1 stick)
Directions
Preheat oven to 400°F, place a rack in lower third of oven and line baking sheet with parchment paper or silicon baking mat.
For filling: In medium bowl mix sliced apples, ¼ cup brown sugar, 3 Tbls flour; set aside.
In saucepan, melt unwrapped caramels, milk and salt over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
Pour half of the apple mixture into pie shell, top with melted caramel then top with remaining apples. Set aside.
For streusel topping: In medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, walnuts and salt together.
Add melted butter and mix until mixture is crumbly.
Crumble streusel over pie and bake for 30 minutes.
Place piece of aluminum foil on top of pie to prevent any burning or overbrowning and bake for additional 20-30 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
Let cool for one hour. Serve pie warm or room temperature.
Hint: For picture-perfect slices, make sure the pie is cooled completely.
